Episode 29: Alternative Ageing with guest Suzi Grant

In this episode we’re talking about “Alternative Ageing” with Suzi Grant - an author, broadcaster & founder of “Alternative Ageing” - a successful blog for the over 50s. After a career in TV, radio and writing health books, Suzi retired at age 60. By 65 she had started a blog to help spread her positive aging message. She is on a mission to inspire women to grow older looking good and feeling great, and to never feel invisible or irrelevant. Her blog, YouTube channel and social media accounts are a mixture of fashion, style, travel, lifestyle and healthy aging. She regularly appears in the media, on podcasts and in major brand campaigns to represent her important demographic. At the age of 69, Suzi Grant is tremendously successful on social media, with over 22,000 followers on Instagram alone.

Suzi Grant’s Writing Career

After Suzi’s mom died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack at the age of 63, it prompted her to train as a nutritional therapist and write three books about health, including the updated version of Alternative Ageing (read more below).

Fast forward to retiring at 60 – Suzi had written several books under but she got really bored. She tried everything from writings scripts to novels, but nothing seemed to be the right fit. It wasn’t until her two godchildren separately suggested that she became a blogger that she began her blog “Alternative Ageing” (click here to learn more). This was when everything changed.

Alternative Ageing

 Suzi Grant’s blog: “Alternative Ageing” is currently celebrating its 5-year anniversary and is hugely successful. Suzi is incredibly happy, because she feels like she has this massive mission to spread the word about positive aging. Suzi is inspiring women of all ages to not dread aging, and instead celebrate it! She believes that all you need to do is stay healthy, vibrant as well as relevant and to never be invisible.

At the time of this interview, Suzi Grant has over 22,000 followers on Instagram. But she reminds us that growing her audience and becoming an influencer on social media wasn’t always easy. There was a lot of learning that had to take place. For example, Suzi had to learn:

  • How to improve her photography skills - especially for Instagram

  • The technical side and back-end of blogging

  • How Instagram worked

  • How to edit videos

There was a massive learning curve and she is still learning every day. But she is grateful for the opportunity.

For Suzi, she loves her platform “Alternative Ageing” because it allows her to tap in into her passion of styling and fashion. She is not afraid of bright colors and wants to encourage her readers and followers that no matter what their age, they don't need to be invisible. You can look and feel vibrant at any age.
